A Reopened Letter to Senator Robert Carpenter. Dear Sen. Bob: You have by now I am sure read your letter from Polk County's own, beloved Asso ciation of County Taxpayers. At first glance, Chairman Walt Hamill appears to make a strong argument. Look again, please. It comes down to what you see as important - what you care about, and what you don't care about. Most of us in Polk County care deeply about edu cating America’s youth. It is nice to know that we were mistaken about ACT however. It does care about "the human factor". The association graciously suggests that our b C. neighbors' children be given a couple years before we kick them out of the schools (Continued On Back Page) Printed In the THERMAL BELT of Western North Carolina TRYON. Repeated attempts to start the engine failed so we got out, prepared to walk back home. We were near the Lynn Body Shop on 108, where Sgt. Carter of the Polk County Sheriffs Dept, was talking to the owner. Sgt. Carter helped us by push ing our car well off the road into the parking area and by calling the towing service to 18 Pages Today 20C Per i ops come take our car to the garage the "fl 1011 I 10 arranged for kev. ° wner 10 give die car 0 - low ing service when drove arr i vc ^’ a ftor which he us back home - 50 impressed and f ° r thc kind a ^ effi- that we^ ( Ss ’ I Carter gavc us good w o 7k ^nowtodge his credit Primly.
